At the beginning of June me and a friend went along to the inaugural Baking Festival in Bakewell, Derbyshire. We planned to make it into a long weekend, staying in a B&B with our other halves coming along to do some cycling whilst we enjoyed all the baking loveliness.
We started off by seeing Stacie Stewart doing a demo of how to make perfect biscotti.
We later met her at her book signing and chatted to her about cake and how she gets her trademark beehive to behave…using only 12 hair grips! She was so lovely, giving us inside tips on making macaroons, we bought her latest book, so many good recipes I can’t wait to try!
We then wandered around the stalls, with so many lovely cakes to be had, I really had to be strict and not buy them all! The best stall had to be the aptly named Muffin Tops, selling such tremendous cupcakes you have ever seen (Thanks to Karen Cunningham or the photo)
We took a tour around the Derbyshire countryside on a vintage bus
We went to a tea tasting and learnt lots about different types of tea
And we even went to a tea dance!
I got to wear my Vivian of Holloway 50s style dress, pictured here with my hubby (he wasn’t impressed at all at the idea of the tea dance!)
The weekend was just amazing, topped by perfect weather! I’m hoping that this years festival has been a success and that they’ll bring it back next year – I’ll definitely be going again!
