Another week and another handmade Monday! With CraftFEST fast approaching I have been busy making more kindle covers
And I have a few new designs up my sleeve 😉
For handmade Monday this week I thought I’d share with you a very simple tutorial on making an armchair organiser. My mum asked me to make one for her and as I had some fabric left over I was able make it to match her iPad cover! This is great to try if you’re a beginner at sewing.
Throughout the tutorial I have used a seam allowance of 5/8″
To make the armchair organiser you will need:
Fabric 21″ x 10.5″ (2 pieces – one front and one back)
2 pieces of fabric in matching/co-ordinating fabric each 5.5″ x 7.5″
Wadding 21″ x 10.5″ (2 pieces)
Scissors/rotary cutter and mat
1) Fold over approx 0.5cm of the long side of both small bits of fabric and sew in place.
2) Lay the fabric for the front of the cover right side up and arrange where you want your pockets to be by placing the 2 small pieces of fabric on top, right sides up with the folded edge nearest the middle. Pin in place.
Decide on where the middle is and sew a straight line down the middle of each pocket. At this stage they will only be attached to the front fabric by these lines, don’t worry as we will now attach the other sides!
3) On a table, place a piece of wadding then the front fabric on top, right side up. Place the back fabric right side down on top of the front fabric, lastly place a piece of wadding on top (wadding therefore sandwiching the fabric), pin together.
Sew around 3 sides. Clip corners and turn right sides out, poke corners and press.
4) Fold the bottom, open edge in approx 0.5cm, so that the raw edge isn’t showing and press. Sew across the bottom, keeping as close to the edge as possible.
There we are all done and ready to use!
Sorry the pictures aren’t great, taken with my iPad on a beautiful sunny day!
