Weekly Bake off

This weeks cake for the weekly bake off challenge was a chocolate and vanilla marble loaf. From reading the recipe it certainly sounded easy enough, one of those all in one and mix type recipes! I randomly put the chocolate and vanilla mixture into the loaf tin and put it in the oven. After checking on it to see how it was doing, I found it had expanded over the edge of the tin and had spilled onto the rack of the oven. However it still looked great and after a bit of trimming I decorated the top with a chocolate mixture with a white chocolate decoration.

I have to admit, initially I wasn’t too keen on making this one as I’m not a fan of chocolate in cakes, however after tasting it I was converted – it was yummy!

This weeks weekly bake off recipe was strawberry pavlova, great timing to be made for my parents visiting for fathers day! However the last time I made pavlova it really didn’t go to plan and ended up in the bin!

I wasn’t going to post about my weekend as I haven’t really achieved anything, I think I’ve failed more than achieved! However I was aware that nobody is perfect and so thought I should still share what I’ve done.

Weekly Bake Off – Hot Cross Buns

This weeks weekly bake off bake was Hot Cross Buns. Now as soon as I read the recipe my heart sank a little, reading about kneading and rising filled me with dread! However as I missed last weeks recipe I decided I really must make the effort this week and saw it as a bit of a challenge.

Big and Mighty Clandestine Cake Club

The crafting part of Tilly Mint Boutique has been on the quiet side recently, with the plan over Easter of redecorating parts of the house, my sewing has taken a back seat! However I have still tried to keep up with baking, as I had signed up for the St Helens Clandestine Cake club and there is another Weekly bake off recipe to try!

Weekly Bake Off – Lemon Yoghurt Cake

A few weeks ago, I saw that Nic was following the Weekly bake off challenge, set up by Amy, in a bid to bake all 100 cakes from Mary Berry’s ’100 Cakes and Bakes’ book. Each week Amy chooses a cake to bake and invites people to join in and share their photos of the weekly bake, the best one is then selected by a guest judge. Since cake baking in our house is a frequent occurrence, I couldn’t wait to join in the challenge!

Amy is baking a few extras along the way, as if we did a cake a week we’d all be baking for 2 years to get through the book! You can see on her blog what has been done so far, this week it was a lemon yoghurt cake. I have to admit that my first offering for the challenge wasn’t my best effort as I only got my recipe book at the end of the week, and had a hectic weekend with in-laws visiting. However that combined with mothers day seemed like a good excuse to get baking!

As I wanted to do 2 cakes, I used loaf tins instead of the recommend 8inch tin. I think they turned out ok and got lots of ums and ahs! My photo wasn’t all that great so don’t think il do all that well in the judging for the challenge – must try harder next time!

Next weeks cake will be announced tomorrow, I can’t wait to see what’s next!
